 The Ramsgate smack R 240 Gracia rescued the crew of the Hartlepool steamer Oakby which was torpedoed by U 8, Commander: Alfred Stoss, off Rye whilst on passage from London to Cardiff in ballast. The Oakby settled by the head and after a long tow by a steam trawler she sank off Folkestone.

 The two man crew of a German seaplane which had crashed landed on the North Sea were rescued by the Lowestoft motor trawler LT 12 New Boy and landed at Lowestoft.
